Catan Leaders is a tiny app for tracking your weekly Catan group's results. This page tells you exactly what we collect, what we don't, and what happens with your data. We try to write it the way we'd want to read it.
Data we collect
When you use Catan Leaders, we store the following on Supabase, our database provider:
Email address. Used to sign you in and verify it's really you. Never shown to anyone else.
Display name (optional). The name shown next to your stats in your group.
Profile photo (optional). The avatar shown next to your name. Stored in Supabase Storage.
Game results. Final points, longest road, largest army, scenario, and the date for every game you log. These are visible to other members of the same room.
Room memberships and invites. Which rooms you're in, your role (owner, admin, member), and any pending invites you've created.
Rating history. A snapshot of your conservative rating after each game, so charts can show your trajectory over time.
Push notification token (optional). Only stored if you grant push permission. Used to send you notifications about your group's activity. Removed when you sign out.
What we don't collect
We don't want any of this and we don't take any of it:
Location. Catan Leaders doesn't request or store your location.
Contacts or address book. Invites are by share link or QR code. We never read your contacts.
Photo library. If you pick a profile photo, we only access the one image you choose. We don't index your library.
Browsing history or device fingerprints. No third-party trackers. No analytics SDKs.
Advertising IDs. Catan Leaders has no ads.
How we use your data
To run the service. Your account, your rooms, your game history — that's the product.
To compute ratings. Game results feed an OpenSkill rating that updates after each game.
To show you to your group. Your display name and avatar appear to other members of any room you're in. Nothing leaves the rooms you've joined.
To send you push notifications. Only if you opt in, and only about activity in your rooms.
We don't sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it to train models. We don't have a marketing list.
Third-party services we use
Supabase — hosts our database, authentication, and storage. Your account email and game data are stored on Supabase infrastructure.
Expo — handles push-notification delivery and over-the-air JavaScript updates. Receives only the push token (not its contents) when you opt in.
Apple App Store — distributes the app and processes any purchases. Receives the data Apple discloses in its own privacy policy.
If we add a service that touches your data, we'll update this page before it goes live.
Data retention
Active accounts: we keep your data for as long as your account exists.
Deleted accounts: when you delete your account, your profile, room memberships, and game records are removed within 30 days. Aggregate ratings in rooms you played in remain anonymized so other players' history isn't broken.
Backups: automated database backups may retain your data for up to 30 additional days before being purged.
Your rights
You can:
Access and correct your data — most of it is editable in the app under Settings.
Export your data — email us and we'll send a JSON dump of everything tied to your account.
Delete your account — Settings → Delete account. This is irreversible.
Opt out of push — iOS Settings → Notifications → Catan Leaders → toggle off.
If you're in the EU/UK or California, you have additional rights under GDPR / CCPA (data portability, erasure, opt-out of sale — though we don't sell data). Email us to exercise any of these.
Children's privacy
Catan Leaders is for ages 13 and up. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13. If we learn we have, we delete it.
Data security
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest (Supabase's storage encryption). Authentication uses secure tokens stored in your device's keychain. If we ever discover a breach affecting your data, we'll notify you within 72 hours of confirmation.
Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect or how we use it, we'll update this page and bump the "last updated" date. Material changes will also be announced in-app on next launch.
